About Us

Our staff comes from various backgrounds and each brings with them a vast knowledge of skills and treatment techniques, which makes this a truly unique practice/clinic.

 



Cindy Stechyshyn, B.Sc.P.T., B.Sc.P.E., CAFCI

Cindy was born and raised around the Yorkton area. In 1995 she convocated from the University of Saskatchewan with her bachelor of science in physical education(with Great Distinction). In 1996 she graduated (with distinction) with a bachelor of science in Physical Therapy. She worked in an orthopaedic based practice in Regina and Yorkton before moving to Swift Current in 2001. She has been co-owner of Central Avenue Physiotherapy since 2006. She has extensive experience in manual therapy, acupuncture and dry needling.











Carla Thiessen, B.Sc., M.P.T.

Carla was born and raised in Swift Current.  She went on to complete a Bachelor of Science degree with high honours in biochemistry and biotechnology in 2008 at the University of Saskatchewan.  She spent the next five years extracting and analyzing DNA as a laboratory technician in Saskatoon.  The desire to continue learning and helping people drew Carla back to the University of Saskatchewan where she completed her Masters in Physical Therapy in the fall of 2015.  Carla returned home to Swift Current and joined the team at Central Avenue Physiotherapy.  She has a special interest in Pelvic Floor physical therapy.  In her free time, Carla enjoys helping out on the family farm, ballroom dancing, running, and flying small aircraft as a private pilot.









Diana Ruetz, M.Sc.P.T., B.Sc.Kin.

Diana was born and raised in Calgary, AB and attended the University of Calgary for her Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology. Following that, she attended the University of Alberta’s satellite campus in Calgary and achieved her Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy in December 2016. Diana has just recently moved to the area where she and her husband are making their home South of Gull Lake on the Ruetz family ranch. Diana is excited to be a part of the team at Central Avenue Physiotherapy and is looking forward to developing her knowledge and skills in private practice.

 










Kate Thomson, B.P.T., C.A.F.C.I.

Kate grew up on a farm near Mossbank, Saskatchewan and attended University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon for her physiotherapy degree. After working in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw as a physiotherapist, she settled in Swift Current with her family in 1985. Kate worked 20 years in the public system before plunging into private practice. Pain management is an area of special interest for Kate and she enjoys using acupuncture in her practice. In 2003 she received her certification with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (CAFCI) and in 2010 completed the McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment series for the back, neck and extremities. 

Kate’s Philosophy: To guide and assist patients in self-management of their injuries and medical conditions.






Kerrie Nybo, B.Sc.P.T., C.A.F.C.I.

Kerrie grew up on a farm near Dodsland, Saskatchewan and attended U of S for her physiotherapy degree. She started work at the Swift Current Union Hospital following graduation and then came to Swift Current Physical Therapy in 1998. Kerrie is married to Bryan Nybo and has two children. Kerrie has a special interest in sports and orthopedic injuries. She completed her acupuncture certification (CAFCI) in 2003 and completed her McKenzie Mechanical diagnosis and therapy series for the neck, back and extremities in 2010. In the past Kerrie has been involved locally with coaching volleyball and basketball and with the soccer association as trainer for the boy’s provincial team. Kerrie continues to be active in volleyball.









Shawna Legault, B.Sc.P.T., Cert. MDT

Shawna was raised on a farm in Eyebrow, SK. She graduated from Olds College and worked in agriculture throughout the prairies for several years before deciding to go back to school for her first interest of caring for people. Shawna graduated with her Degree in Physical Therapy from University of Alberta in 2005. After graduation she settled in Red Deer where she started her career in home care and built her family. 

In spring 2013 Shawna, her husband Brad and their two daughters, Taryn and Amy moved to Swift Current. She has completed her orthopedic coursework in Mechanical Diagnosis with the McKenzie Institute International. She has also attended coursework and conferences for Movement Impairment Syndromes and Individual Joints. Shawna looks forward to expanding her career and skill set in private practice.






Niki Olivier, B.Sc.P.T.

Niki was born and raised in South Africa and graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with a Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy in 2008. She worked in rural South Africa for 2 years and then changed over to private practice doing rooms and hospital work. Having arrived in Swift Current during August 2014, she is looking forward to making a difference in Canadian patient’s lives. In 2017 she completed her dry needling certification.
