ATHLETIC THERAPY
WHAT IS ATHLETIC THERAPY?
Athletic therapists are known for their expertise and knowledge in musculoskeletal-related injuries. Commonly sports-related, AT’s most common clients are athletes. However, their scope varies widely, and all patients are welcome.
Whether you are dealing with an acute injury or a long-term issue, athletic therapists offer several forms of therapy such as:
Manual therapy
Cupping
Traction
Joint mobilization
and more
Athletic therapy may not be covered under some insurance companies and/or policies. If you have coverage, please check with your provider to determine if your insurance covers this service.
ATHLETIC therapy vs. PHYSIOTHERAPY?
Physiotherapy is a multi-systemic approach, treating patients not only for musculoskeletal issues, but also neurological, cardiac, respiratory, and more. With a holistic approach to treat acute, chronic, and post-surgery, physiotherapists use modalities such as manual therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, ultrasound, heat therapy, education, and more. With a physiotherapist, you may seek specialized treatments in pelvic floor, vertigo, and vestibular.
Athletic therapists specialize in musculoskeletal disorders, commonly working with an athletic population. Within a clinic setting, AT’s see all clients who are suffering from any disorder involving stiff and sore muscles, fractures, tendon and joint-related syndromes, sprains, strains, dislocations, and concussions. With an athletic therapist, you will seek active rehabilitation, whether you are focused on immediate care, return-to-play, or injury prevention.
